If you're planning on owning property for eco tourism, conventional wisdom says you need to make sure you have the property properly game fenced and stocked with animals before you lay one brick for a house. Wildlife management isn't as simple as putting up a fence though. you need to understand how many animals the property can sustain, how fast they reproduce, what they eat, and what diseases they are susceptible to. Ethical wildlife management is a hot topic - if you're going to do this, be part of the solution and not part of the problem. Then actual farm, lodge and people management comes in to play. Part-time studying is a great way to start understanding your dream to make it a reality.
Courses
Wildlife Campus is an online learning centre with endless course options. They have an incredibly reasonable subscription option that let's you do all of them. Their support is really great too.
WARNING! This movie is extremely traumatizing and not for sensitive or young viewers!!!!
Organic Meat
It's not easy to find a supplier who takes care of their animals, let them forage as nature intended and slaughter them humanely. Badgerleur is one of those places. An hour outside of Jhb, they bring their produce to the Bryanston Organic Market every week and invite anyone to come and visit their animals any time if you're concerned.
